Adding a Repository in OEL5.x

After installing Oracle Enterprise Linux you might notice that the “add/remove software” option in the applications menu only contains the allready installed packages. If you want to install new ones you can definitly not use this tool.

To add a repo you can either register with oracle for support (If your system is a production server this is the way to go though). If you dont want the kernel updates but want to have the GNU packages available. Then add a repository in the “edit” menu of the package manager with the following information.

Description : “Red Hat Enterprise 5 – RPMforge.net -dag”
Mirror List : “http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/mirrors-rpmforge”
GPG Key : “///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-rpmforge-dag” (if installed, see rpmforge for more info)

or use the GPG key using this URL:
http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/RPM-GPG-KEY.dag.txt
